Our Story
****************************************************

One morning in 1981, local couple Darryl Cruise and his wife were sitting at their table with a bunch of rodeo kids that had stayed the night.  Their boy was riding high school rodeo, so they had an idea to have a rodeo here in Corning.   Cruise approached the Corning Boosters Club with the idea, and the Corning Junior Rodeo was born!
That first year John Growney loaned them the entire arena- panels, chutes and everything!  One of the most difficult parts was figuring out how to get the arena to Clark Park. Growney helped them figure out the best way to run the rodeo.
The Corning Junior Rodeo association was formed the next year.  Although no longer actively involved, Cruise and Dayton Smith were instrumental in getting CJR started. Many of the original members are still active in the association today.  They include Bogy Henderson, Doug Oilar, and the Brewers, among others.
It takes a lot of people to put on our rodeo and we have many volunteers who dedicate countless hours for our youth.  Our community has been very generous in supporting us.  There is no way we could do this without them.  We invite you to visit our sponsor list!  Stop by and see these folks if you get a chance and let them know how much we appreciate them!
